What is a repetitive stress injury (RSI)?

Repetitive stress injuries, also known as repetitive strain injuries, repetitive motion injuries, and cumulative trauma disorders, are caused by repeating incorrect motions. RSIs include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, Dystonia, Tennis Elbow, Trigger Finger/Thumb, and BlackBerry Thumb.

The symptoms appear in your fingers, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, neck, and/or back and can include one or more of the following:

  • Muscle fatigue or weakness
  • Feelings of tightness
  • Swelling
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Nocturnal numbness or pain
  • Intermittent or chronic pain
  • Loss of grip strength
  • Difficulty or inability to write, drive, open doors, garden, use knives, pick up small objects, and do other everyday tasks
  • A general sensation of discomfort and loss of motor freedom

Why Is the Healthy Typing Video Better Than Other Products and Services?

Products and services such as risky surgeries, break-reminder software, massages, and wrist rests can actually make your pain worse.

The MoveRight system is superior because it’s:

  • Non-Surgical & Non-Invasive
  • Addresses the underlying causes of fatigue and discomfort, not just the symptoms. You will eliminate the problem permanently and prevent the problem from interfering with your career and personal life.
  • Backed by a federally funded study

To reduce or cure your typing pain learn more about our VIDEO LESSONS or IN-PERSON LESSONS.

What causes Carpal Tunnel typing injuries and how can I type without pain?

The primary causes of typing related RSI are:

  • Finger isolation
  • Curling
  • Stretching
  • Twisting
  • Broken wrist
  • Incorrect seat height

Other important elements go into healthy typing, including correct finger-hand-forearm alignment. To learn more, watch our Healthy Typing video or schedule in-person training.

Who can the MoveRight System for Healthy Typing help?

Anyone suffering from carpal tunnel pain from typing, hand pain from typing, typing finger pain, or fatigue of any kind resulting from any type of repetitive motion will benefit from the MoveRight System including computer users, pianists, string and woodwind players, percussionists, and the list continues to grow daily.

We’ve worked with children, adults, and the elderly and have successfully treated all levels of injury, from mild discomfort and fatigue to injuries so severe that opening a jar or turning a doorknob were impossible.

People who use their hands on a regular basis are especially prone to RSI:

  • Office workers
  • Musical instrumentalists
  • Graphic designers
  • Chefs
  • Dentists
  • Surgeons
  • Factory workers
  • …and many others

When should I start treatment?

As soon as you feel any discomfort, such as numbness, tingling, or pain. The longer someone suffers with RSIs and their related symptoms, the more difficult it is to treat and the longer it may take to cure. Leave it untreated long enough, and the pain will intensify to the point that you’ll no longer be able to perform basic daily tasks without complication. You can even lose the use of your hands and fingers. Therefore, anyone with mild to severe symptoms should seek treatment immediately.

The MoveRight System can also be used as a preventative or early intervention method to reduce the number and the severity of injuries in the workplace and at home.

How long does treatment take?

A person who wants to learn how to drive a car might be able to drive around a parking lot at 5 mph after the first lesson, but it takes practice and additional lessons to drive safely and quickly. The MoveRight System works the same way.

On average, treatment takes two to six training sessions (30-60 minutes each) and at least 15 minutes of independent practice per day. In-person sessions with a certified specialist are best, but if you can’t, the Healthy Typing video is an excellent substitute.

The number of treatments and the results of the MoveRight System depend on:

  • The specifics of your injury
  • How quickly you adopt new habits
  • The effort you put into maintaining these new habits
  • Consistent use of the new techniques
  • Analytic ability

Why is the MoveRight System based on a technique originally developed for pianists?

Pianists probably rely on their hands and keyboarding abilities more than practitioners of any other profession. Their job depends on it, so it’s no surprise they work diligently to prevent and treat repetitive stress injury.

Pianists have used the Taubman Approach since its inception over forty years ago. Healthy Typing specialists are the world’s leading experts in adapting, improving, and applying these principles to pain-free typing and completion of other repetitive tasks.

What will the MoveRight System do for me?

Healthy Typing’s MoveRight System has two primary goals:

  • Eliminate your pain
  • Help you identify harmful movements and correct them to eliminate pain and discomfort permanently

Do I need special ergonomic equipment?

An ergonomically correct workspace is essential for healthy movement, but it alone will not prevent or cure pain or injury. You can use this equipment and still make the same harmful movements! Those who recognize the high expense and productivity loss caused by RSIs have the opportunity to save a significant amount of money by using the MoveRight System.

The MoveRight System’s ergonomic requirements include:

  • Adjustable chair without arms or with adjustable arm rests
  • Feet resting on the floor or on a flat surface
  • Monitor at eye level and directly in front of the keyboard.
  • Standard (non-“ergonomic”) keyboard without a wrist rest
  • Mouse or pointing device positioned near the keyboard

It’s important to remember, however, that the pain and discomfort starts once you start moving, so you can still cause injury with this equipment. That’s why you need the MoveRight System.

May I exercise while using the MoveRight System?

Aerobic exercises such as running, swimming, cycling, stair climbing, and elliptical training are safe for healthy typing and good for you. However, exercises that focus on finger and hand isolation or squeezing often mimic the incorrect motions that caused the initial injury and may delay recovery. Similarly heavy weightlifting should be avoided. Since RSIs are not caused by inadequate strength or flexibility, strength exercises do not help cure them.

Can I train others once I’ve completed the program?

Teaching the MoveRight System requires professional training and experience in the diagnosis and correction of coordination problems. A person who is successfully cured is not qualified to implement treatment for another individual unless they undergo Healthy Typing Inc’s Specialist Training Program.
